New Orleans Travel Guide Ghostly Heart Atelier French Quarter

Wander | New Orleans

“Don’t you just love those long afternoons in New Orleans when an hour isn’t just an hour–but a little piece of eternity dropped into your hands–and who knows what to do with it?”

— Tennessee Williams (A Streetcar Named Desire)

Some places are just filled with a certain…something.

Something that creeps up under your skin and lights you up from the inside out.

Like New Orleans.

Doi Suthep by motorbike...Chiang Mai, Thailand

How far would you go… for a cup of coffee?

Doi Suthep by motorbike...Chiang Mai, Thailand

up, up, up the mountain…

I love coffee. I love the moments of contemplation found between sips of a deliciously dark brew. I love magic spots in foreign places, suddenly made familiar with a single cup. It’s powerful stuff. A fuel. It generates, and it brings together. So when I got wind of a Hmong Village somewhere way up and into the wilds of Chiang Mai’s Doi Suthep where there was locally grown coffee to be had, I knew that we had to venture out to find it. The Spring Coffee- Waegwan, South Korea

As I have mentioned before, coffee is such a big deal in South Korea, that even a moderately sized community like Waegwan (the locals refer to it as a ‘rural city’) boasts a handful of nice cafes. The Spring Coffee is one of those. Continue reading

Cafe Z

cafe z

I may be a bit biased since this cute little coffee shop is owned and run by my mom…But according to more than a few of our customers, this is the best place to get caffeinated in upstate NY. The beans are sourced from Rao’s Roasting Company near Amherst, Massachusetts. (If you are in the area, stop by their coffee shop where I spent many hours studying whilst I attended Hampshire College). The baked goods are all homemade (I used to be one of the wooden spoons behind all the sweet deliciousness…), the old floor is nice and creaky, and the shelves are filled with gourmet food stuff like imported aged balsamic vinegar, locally produced maple syrup and chocolate. It is a bit off the beaten path, but if you are heading out of NYC and on your way to the Adirondack Mountains or Canada, make sure to stop in. You won’t feel like you are in cow country at all!
