Where is the place where two rivers meet?  Dumulmeori…

Two watery heads converge, making one.  Liquid expanse meets distant mountain, and all around a sea of green.  Lotus, lotus, everywhere…

Where is the place where two rivers meet and lotus reigns supreme?  Dumulmeori…

Dumulmeori (두물머리) literally means “the head of two waters”- it is where Bukhangang and Namhangang meet on the southern tip of Yangsuri, a few kilometers east of Seoul city. Semiwon (세미원) is a large park linked to Dumuleori filled with lotus fields, walkways, 3 ancient zelkova trees, and a fountain made out of Hagari (traditional Korean pottery jars). The name comes from a proverb: “one can cleanse his mind by looking at water and enlighten his spirit by looking at flowers”. Restaurants and cafes in the area feature menu items with lotus infused specialties- from lotus ice cream and bingsu, to lotus leaf topped hot stone pot rice, and small lotus filled breads…
