Deep in the heart of Hongdae, one of the busiest neighbourhoods of Seoul, lies a tiny slice of the country life…well, sort of. Cat Cafes are all the rage these days- but what about sheep cafes? That’s right, you heard correctly…a little cafe right in the middle of the great big city that serves up coffee, delicious waffles with ice cream, and the chance to spend some time with two friendly, fluffy ewes (Elsa and Anna will be hanging out through 2015)…I tried to imagine something like this existing in Manhattan, but I am sure the red tape would be monumental. Only in Korea! It is just too wacky…and cool! I would definitely recommend a visit to this novelty cafe. I mean, can you really resist all that cuteness- especially when paired with a yummy vanilla latte? I sure can’t….
(Another added bonus: there is a really nice baking supply shop right next door. Muffin tins, cupcake papers, large bags of chocolate chips, gel food colouring…For those of us living in South Korea we know how difficult this stuff is to find.)
How to get there:
Take line 2 to the Hongik University stop (239)- you can also use the teal coloured Gyeongui line… leave the station via exit 9…you will pretty much be in the heart of Hongdae….walk straight until you get to the first intersection then hang a left. Go straight for a few minutes passing by 3 roads on your left. Look for the Thanks Nature Cafe sign, and take the stairs down (the cafe is below the street)
Haha I’ve totally been to this place 🙂 I was so surprised to see a live sheep in the middle of Seoul. Tasty sweet potato lattes, too!
I haven’t tried a sweet potato latte yet…but I bet they are delicious!
