Art n’ Seoul

(a mostly visual exploration of the Mullae Art Village)

I couldn’t stop taking pictures. Everywhere I looked there was something wonderful and mysterious. The line between art, accident, and naturally occurring residue was completely blurred. One of my most favourite combinations. Rust- painted murals – mannequins posed in corners – twisted wires – bits of metal – a toothbrush – secret messages stenciled in obscure places- a cafe – a baking studio – a welding shop – an industrial scrap yard – a renegade art gallery guarded by a hob tailed cat. It felt magic. I was transported. Inspired. I forgot that it was only 20 degrees outside. The streets and pathways were quiet (it was a cold Sunday afternoon) but the creative energy of the place was tangible. I think the bricks were even vibrating. I really couldn’t stop taking pictures.

Needless to say, I can’t wait to go back. Sometime during the week or on a Saturday when it warms up a bit and more of the storefronts and workshops have their doors open. More exploring and a chance to meet some of the local creatives. My head is already flooded with sculptural fantasies, and I have hopes that they will come to life in some crazy sliver of this place.
Mullae, so glad I found you.

Take line 2 to Mullae Station, exit 7. Walk straight a couple of minutes until you get to a fork in the road, bare left (just a little-not the full left) at the horse sculpture and go explore!
By the looks of their facebook page, The Mullae Arts Center has regularly scheduled performances, Blog Moon, and Dudl Gallery also have active facebook pages with happening stuff…a most definite feast for those who are interested in supporting the local arts scence.

What impresses me is that you give us a feeling you are comfortable/safe in this foreign land.
    Enjoy!! Love P&B

Korea does feel pretty safe…even in the quieter neighbourhoods. Quite different from some other places in the world! Love hearing from you guys!

Lara those pics are absolutely outstanding…one of the ones that I like best is the one with the welder.

We love your artistic touch on those pictures.
